The Mavari surf cloak transforms into a backpack

The Mavari surf cloak is geared toward a multi-purpose lifestyle: outdoor recreation, unpredictable weather changes and ease of portability are considerations for someone who lives an active and varied life.

A team of designers that includes Juan Carlos Viso, Bryan Capriles and Oscar Solorzano conceived of the cloak that offers several functions, including drying off after being in the water, a warm cover-up for changing in and out of a wetsuit, a backpack for portability, a jacket or cape for everyday use and shelter for sudden changes in the weather.

The “Mavari skin’ is a triple-layer fabric that gives the design its reversible quality. Waterproof, windproof, absorbent, breathable and antibacterial properties characterize the material; one side of the fabric is waterproof, while the other is absorbent microfiber. Layers are bonded to a membrane that is both resistant to moisture and breathable.

The cloak features some nice extra touches too, such as a use and care label that doubles as a lens cleaning cloth. Additionally, an embedded code allows the wearer to use their cloak as a scanner, connecting with friends and sharing information, as well as accessing rewards for additional products.

The design team has successfully raised enough funds to meet their goal on Kickstarter.
