DSM Dyneema acquires Cubic Tech

Industry News | May 22, 2015 | By:

Dutch synthetic-fiber maker DSM Dyneema has acquired Mesa, Ariz.-based high-performance fabric maker Cubic Tech Corp. The privately owned Cubic Tech designs, develops and produces high-performance, ultra-lightweight, flexible laminates and fabrics—most of them based on DSM’s Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMwPE) Dyneema® fabric—and focuses on high-end solutions in applications as diverse as racing-yacht sails, equipment and apparel for sportswear, outdoor and future military applications, as well as emergency medical equipment. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.

The acquisition broadens the portfolio of DSM Dyneema, providing the company with information complementary to its own in the processing of UHMwPE fiber, tape and production of unidirectional fabrics, and enhances the company’s innovation pipeline. The acquisition also accelerates DSM Dyneema’s entry into the performance apparel markets.

Cubic Tech’s technology has been developed and refined over two decades of research and development, originating with racing sails used in the America’s Cup in 1992. The company will be fully integrated into DSM Dyneema, and all employees of Cubic Tech have been invited to remain with the company.
