Renewable-food and industrial ingredients developer DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products and sustainable-chemical maker BioAmber will launch a co-sponsored polyol sampling program in April in an effort to accelerate the speed to market for bio-based solutions.

Based respectively in Loudon, Tenn., and Montreal, Quebec, the companies’ efforts hope to address environmentally friendly bio-based solutions for such “megatrends” as resource consumption, environmental issues and population growth around the globe.

“Bio-based alternative products manufactured from renewable resources can have advanced technical properties and functionality compared to their petroleum-based counterparts,” Laurie Kronenberg, global marketing director for DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products, said in a press release. “Jointly, DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products and BioAmber have developed and characterized multiple bio-based polyols. The immediate availability of these polyols in addition to the characterization data enables urethane manufacturers to perform faster initial testing of bio-based solutions.”

Added Louise Batchelor, vice president of marketing for BioAmber, “These polyols are the building blocks that deliver high performance in a variety of polyurethane applications, from footwear and waterproof films to artificial leather and coating, adhesives and elastomer applications. We are providing these to accelerate innovation for our customers.”

BioAmber is an industrial biotechnology company producing sustainable chemicals. Its proprietary technology platform combines industrial biotechnology and chemical catalysis to convert renewable feedstock into sustainable chemicals for use in a wide variety of everyday products including plastics, paints, food additives and personal care products.

DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products is a joint venture between DuPont, a global science company, and Tate & Lyle, a world-leading renewable food and industrial ingredients company. DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products provides natural and renewably sourced ingredients that enhance product performance.
