Lakshmi Machine Works Limited (LMW), based in Coimbatore, India, has unveiled a solar-powered “mini ring frame” to produce yarn.
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, LMW partnered with the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises to design and develop a mini ring frame that would benefit the khadi (handspun and hand-woven cloth) industry for youth self-employment and women empowerment in even remote villages.
According to a report at textilesupdate.com, the mechanized mini ring frame features 32 spindles driven by solar energy and designed with a host of features that ensure high productivity, quality of yarn and also provides safety and user-friendliness. The machine is capable of producing high-quality yarn in thread counts from 10s to 60s with solar power for nine hours a day.
