Biosteel fibers certified for safety and biodegradability

AMSilk production and product development processes as well as the biological degradability of the company’s Biosteel fibers were confirmed.

Biosteel fiber received certification from OEKO-TEX Standard 100 (Confidence in Textiles) for product class 1 by the Hohenstein Institute. Product class 1 textiles receive this certification if they pass tests regarding pollutants and product safety. The products are deemed suitable for babies and children younger than age three.

AMSilk also reports that the SGS Institute Fresenius, in accordance with OECD Norm 301B, confirmed that the Biosteel silk material is “readily biodegradable.”

In November, AMSilk presented in New York a high-performance sports shoe, a collaboration with adidas, which features an upper material consisting of the Biosteel fibers. The shoe represents success for AMSilk in producing market-ready products. The company predicts greater cooperation among international partners to create sustainable, functional textiles using nature-identical silk biopolymers.
