KI ecobe debuts a modular shoe

Out There | July 10, 2017 | By:

KI ecobe has developed a new modular shoe designed to transition from home to outdoors, to work and back again.

Each part serves a different function of support or comfort. The ecobe insole, outsole, inboot, shoelaces and KI strap can be mixed and matched for a possible 10,215 combinations of colors and styles. Consumers are able to customize their own combination via an app.

Additionally, the creators point out that the shoe’s modular nature helps create a closed loop; if a part wears out, it can be recycled, and because its production process uses no toxic adhesives, recycling is easier for consumers, and manufacturing is safer for workers.

The company is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter.
