ATA’s 2024 Emerging Technologies Conference at Expo

The Advanced Textiles Association’s Emerging Technologies Conference Sept. 23-26, 2024, in Anaheim, Calif., will cover a range of topics important in today’s textile industry, and will feature three topic areas: artificial intelligence, sustainability and smart fabrics. The conference runs concurrently with ATA’s Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center. 

Beginning at 8:00 a.m. Sept. 23, there will be a full day dedicated to emerging technologies education and networking:

  • Erin Parker Tillery, NC State, speaks on “Moving Innovations to the Masses: An Analysis of Technology Transfer in U.S. Textiles.”
  • Hand surgeon Holly Morris presents, “A Clinical Perspective on Improving Sustainability within Healthcare Textiles.” 
  • Frank Keohan, Bolger & O’Hearn Inc., discusses “Textile Finishing Options Amid Tightening PFAS Regulation.” 
  • Gozde Goncu-Berk, UC Davis, presents on the topic, “Empowering Health and Wellbeing: Transdisciplinary Design Innovations in Smart Clothing and E-Textiles.” 
  • A presentation by Salman Chaudry, KBR Inc, partnering with Axiom Space to support the NASA Artemis III Mission, is titled, “Weaving the Future: How Textiles Ensure Astronaut Survival in Space.”
  • Konrad Rykaczewski, Arizona State University, will discuss “Informing Design of Apparel for a Hotter World: Human-Surrounding Interactions in Extreme Heat.”
  • Julian Cherston, Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian presents “The Well-Dressed Spacecraft.”

Also presenting exciting new information on Monday are Irmandy Wicaksono; MIT’s Media Lab, on textile macro-electronics; Prateeti Ugale, NC State, on vertical flexible interconnects for e-textiles; Lelia Lawson, Davey Textile Solutions Inc., regarding hemp stalk processing; and “Challenges in Making the Ideal Sensor Fabric” by Dr. Nic Brownless, COO, VP R&D, Eeonyx Corp. More sessions are to be confirmed soon. 

The second day includes classroom education in the morning, which transitions to the show floor in the afternoon.
