Teijin Ltd. to acquire Asahi Kasei Advance

Asahi Kasei portfolio restructuring continues

Company News, Industry News | December 29, 2025 | By:

In December 2025 Teijin Ltd. and Asahi Kasei Corp. agreed to an absorption-type merger between Asahi Kasei Advance Corp. and Teijin Frontier Co. Ltd., where Teijin Frontier will serve as the surviving company and become a joint venture between Asahi Kasei (20%) and Teijin (80%), effective Oct. 1, 2026.

An announcement about the new company name resulting from the integration of the Company and Asahi Kasei Advance is planned for around spring 2026.

Asahi Kasei Advance was established in 2015 as a trading company primarily handling products from the Asahi Kasei Group, such as fibers, chemical products and construction materials.

Teijin Frontier has strong global procurement and manufacturing, enabling it to develop and produce high-performance fibers across a wide range of fields, including apparel, textiles and industrial materials.

Combining the strengths of the companies, their business platforms, sales networks and customer bases will drive growth and competitiveness and maximize corporate value, says a release from Asahi Kasei.

Hangzhou Asahikasei Textiles Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Asahi Kasei (China) Co., Ltd., which manufactures and sells textile products, will be transferred to Asahi Kasei Advance prior to the integration.

Other Asahi Kasei restructuring

Asahi Kasei also announced in December that it would discontinue production of hexamethylene diamine (HMD) as part of its ongoing portfolio optimization. HMD and its by-product, propionitrile, are used in materials such as polyamide 66 (PA66), hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) and resin hardening agents.

The phaseout will be completed by April 2027 but will not affect the production of Asahi Kasei’s PA66 resin and filament in Nobeoka nor the production of HDI and its derivatives in Hyuga—both located in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan.

Asahi Kasei is implementing structural reforms that channel resources to its key growth pillars—pharmaceuticals, critical care, overseas homes and electronics. The company began in 1922 with ammonia and cellulose fiber business and has 50,000 employees worldwide.
