U.S. President Donald Trump announced Aug. 11 that the tariff on Chinese imports will remain at the same rate—30%—for an additional 90 days. China’s 10% tariff on American imports will also stay at the same rate. The announcement was made shortly before the U.S. tariff on Chinese imports was set to increase to 145%. This increase was set to take effect after a previous 90-day pause on its implementation announced in May.
The president announced the 90-day extension in the Executive Order “Further Modifying Reciprocal Tariff Rates to Reflect Ongoing Discussions with the People’s Republic of China.” According to the order, the extension ends Nov. 10.
