U.S. Department of Commerce announces second inclusion process for Section 232 tariffs

Industry News, News | September 18, 2025 | By:

The U.S. Department of Commerce has opened the second round of its inclusion process for the department’s investigation into Section 232 imports of aluminum and steel derivative products. Aluminum and steel derivative producers must submit product inclusion requests by Sept. 29 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Following this deadline, a two-week comment period will be held to allow those affected to respond to the inclusion requests accepted by the department. The notice was published in the Federal Register Sept. 17 and can be found here.

Requests must be emailed to the Defense Industrial Base Programs at DIBPrograms@bis.doc.gov. For questions regarding this notice or the inclusions process overall, contact Stephen Astle at 202-482-4506 or Steel232@bis.doc.gov for steel inclusion requests and Aluminum232@bis.doc.gov for aluminum inclusion requests.

The first inclusion process resulted in the department adding 407 product categories in August to the list of steel and aluminum derivative products covered by Section 232 tariffs, which are currently subject to a 50% duty rate.
