Teijin Frontier launches sensing garments

Teijin Frontier has launched a new line of sportswear and other garments incorporating sensing technologies, a recent release announced. The technology is expected to be applied to sports techniques and to support the progress of physical therapy patients.

The company’s new vital sensing wear combines NANOFRONT fibers with vital-sign sensing technology. By sensing heart rates and activity levels, it can be used in sports team management and the prediction of heatstroke risk, the company says.

The company has chosen increased focus on the Plan-Do-Check-Action cycle, which calls for monitoring and visual readouts of motion, heart rate and activity levels to promote safe and effective workplaces and workouts. The new products include coaching wear, which uses an algorithm to display the difference between the motion of the wearer and ideal motion.

Teijin is also incorporating functional fibers and sensing techniques into textiles designed to be connected to the Internet of Things.
