Three organizations have recently joined The Microfibre Consortium (TMC), a project involving outdoor brands and research partners to develop solutions to minimize microfiber release into the environment, a recent article on Sportstextiles.com reported.
The American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC), Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE) and Textile Exchange are research and affiliate members, increasing the consortium’s scope to support greater global research and collaboration.
The Microfibre Consortium was founded as a nonprofit in November 2018 and coordinates a range of outdoor, fashion, sport and home textiles brands, retailers and suppliers.
The organization’s three-year work agenda includes developing test methods; supporting brands and retailers as they develop products that release less fiber during consumer laundry cycles; supporting suppliers as they manufacture textiles, to understand loss and how to manage it.
