Atex® architectural membranes, produced by Valmiera Glass UK Ltd., were used in a recent project (fall 2014) completed at Terminal 2 in London’s Heathrow Airport.
Atex fabrics were used extensively in the ceiling panels that covered about 50,000 square meters of space. The company worked with LuisVidal & Co. and Maffeis Engineering S.p.A. on the project.
The company is a manufacturer of silicone-coated glass fiber textiles. Atex is a range of glass woven fabrics with a high strength-to-weight ratio and a quality mat lacquer finish developed to protect the coating and to have maximum protection against environmental influences.
Valmiera Glass Group R&D developed a complete new top-coat system—a major step forward for handling and soil resistance. Beside the major improvements in resistance to any dirt and easier handling, the finish brings a new, exclusive look to the surface of the Atex membranes.
The year before, the company’s product was used in a project designed by Zaha Hadid, for the Serpentine Sackler Gallery in London. In this case, Atex 3000 TRL was used as the inner layer.
