Akcros Chemicals offers solid biocide product line

Industry News | March 9, 2015 | By:

Akcros Chemicals of New Brunswick, N.J., has announced a successful startup for manufacturing solid isothiazolone-based INTERCIDE biocide pellets at their home facility, capping off a more than $1 million investment designed to offer enhanced quality control, regulatory approvals and reliability of supply.

In 2014, Akcros Chemicals and Dow Microbial Control, a Dow Chemical subsidiary, extended their strategic relationship for biocides for plastics applications on a global basis. Under the agreement, Dow Microbial Control transferred manufacturing equipment and provided Akcros with additional expertise to manufacture an enhanced line of isothiazolone-based solid carriers for protection of polymers. These products, previously under the Dow VINYZENE biocide trade name, will now be manufactured in New Brunswick as part of the INTERCIDE biocide line for polymers and brought to market by Akcros Chemicals. The products are typically used in the construction and home goods markets to inhibit the growth of micro-organisms on flexible PVC products.

Akcros Chemicals makes additives for the processing and manufacturing of polymers, such as polyvinylchloride (PVC) polyurethane (PU) polyolefins (PO) and is a specialty supplier of additives to the sealants, paint and coatings markets.
