There may be an opportunity for a suitably qualified candidate to undertake a Ph.D. studentship (scholarship) within the Advanced Textiles Research Group (ATRG) at Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham, U.K. A first degree is required and a background in electronics or mechatronics would be advantageous.
The concept developed by ATRG is a new technology whereby semiconductor chips are encased within a bundle of fibers, producing an electronic yarn. The aim of the project will be to develop an automated manufacturing process for embedding strain-sensitive semiconductor chips. This will enable the measurement of strain in ropes, fabrics and composites.
