Cone Denim launches Future BLACK+ Denim

Industry News | October 31, 2017 | By:

A collaboration among Cone Denim, Lenzing and Unifi has created Future BLACK+ denim featuring Lenzing Modal branded fibers and REPREVE® Black recycled fibers. Future BLACK+, a certified fade-resistant black denim, will join Cone Denim’s family of TruTone fabrics.

According to Unifi, Future BLACK+ denim utilizes dope dyeing, an energy-saving and environmentally friendly dyeing technique that introduces the pigment during the production process. Adding the colorant during manufacturing allows the entire body of the fiber to be colored and eliminates the need for a dye bath later in the process.

Unifi reports that wash tests have shown denim made from Future BLACK+ showed no sign of color loss after more than 20 washes. Jeans made from this product contain as many as 17 recycled plastic bottles.

REPREVE, one of Unifi’s proprietary technologies in branded recycled performance fibers, has transformed more than 5 billion plastic bottles into recycled fiber for new clothing, shoes, home goods and other consumer products.

Cone Denim promotes both sustainable practices in its operations and development of new denims, including Cone products SGENE technology and CONE Deeptone Denim.

Lenzing supplies the global textile and nonwovens industry with high-quality, botanic cellulose fibers, including the brands Lenzing Viscose, Lenzing Modal and TENCEL lyocell fibers.
