OIA launches new sustainability platform

EcoNote | March 12, 2018 | By:

The Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) announces that it has launched a new education and content platform under its sustainability pillar on outdoorindustry.org. The platform provides tools and resources created by the OIA Sustainability Working Group (SWG), which has been addressing supply chain issues for over a decade.

The site launch coincided with Outdoor Retailer + Snow Show (OR + SS) in Denver, where the Sustainability Working Group held its latest working meetings and education sessions. These included the Sustainability Convergence event, bringing innovators, investors, researchers, academics and other stakeholders together.

Beth Jensen, OIA’s senior director of sustainable business innovation, noted that climate change was central to OIA’s programming at the 2018 OR + SS. According to Jensen, the meetings attracted over 175 SWG members, indicating growing involvement in sustainable supply chain management.

“. . . We know our business leaders want to be sure they are doing all they can to reduce their supply chain impact, while also advocating for smart climate solutions,” Jensen said.

Users will find resources and downloadable toolkits on the new site. Also featured is a climate change section designed to help outdoor industry companies find ways to combat the climate crisis, via supply chain impact reduction and local and national advocacy.

The Boulder, Colo.-based OIA aims to unite and serve more than 1,300 manufacturer, supplier, sales representative and retailer members through its focus on trade and recreation policy, sustainable business innovation and outdoor participation.
