C6 ban expected in the EU

EcoNote | April 13, 2020 | By:

The use of fluorocarbon-based C6 water repellents in textiles and other consumer goods in Europe may be coming to an end this year.

According to an Ecotextile News article, Germany has submitted proposed new rules to restrict perfluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA) coming onto the market. A consultation period is in effect until Sept. 25, 2020. Appeals to the proposed new legislation are not expected. What is expected is a future ban on all fluorocarbon-based water repellents, the article reported.

In addition, a European Union restriction on C8 to C14 perfluorinated substances used to make durable water repellent coatings will also come into effect July 4, 2020.
