Huvis mass produces graphene fiber

South Korean fiber producer Huvis has begun to mass produce a dyeable graphene fiber. Until now, high-purity graphene fiber has been possible only in the research phase, and most of the graphene fiber commercialized so far has either had substandard graphene content, or it is fiber that’s coated with a graphene material.

Working with its partners Seoul National University Smart Nano Venture and Korean plastics developer NeoEnpla Co. Ltd., the company was able to produce a graphene fiber as a yarn by injecting graphene into the fiber production process, as opposed to coating it. This allows for a stable fiber, which can be dyed various colors.

The university researchers had developed a single-layer, high-purity graphene in 2018 and liquid graphene in 2019. NeoEnpla received the graphene from Smart Nano, and from there developed the graphene master batch for fiber. Huvis and NeoEnpla have been producing graphene fiber on a pilot basis since March 2020.

In March 2021, Huvis and NeoEnpla signed a Memorandum of Understanding concerning the stable, mass-production of graphene fiber, as well as for the deployment of various differentiated products.
