Massif secures approval for new flight suit

Massif, a producer of flame-resistant technical apparel for the U.S. military, has attained Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) approval for its new 2-Piece Flight Suit. Fiber2Fashion reports that the company designed the flight suit using direct user feedback across multiple branches and platforms.

The Massif team set out to enhance the capabilities of military service personnel by moving away from the traditional one-piece flight suit. The new design is a two-piece athletic-style garment. Advantages to having two pieces include being able to mix and match the sizes of pants and jackets to aid flexibility and movement and increase coverage in flash fire events. The company engineered and patented an attachment system to connect the jacket to the pant, addressing concerns about flash events and exposed skin.

The flight suits are built from Burlington’s Sigma 4 Star fabric. They utilize mesh-lined pocket configurations to mitigate heat stress and enhance drying. The suits also incorporate ergonomically designed seams and zippered pant legs, intended for easy on and off. The suit is available in men’s and women’s sizing and is Berry compliant.
